Going to my first steel match Labor Day and according to Practiscore they claim an "estimated" 60 rounds per string. What does this mean?

I'm familiar with IDPA and USPSA but dont really know about steel matches. Is a "string" a stage and if so why would you need 60rds for one stage. The SCSA rules state 5 targets per stage.

Really just trying to get an idea of how much ammo I should bring.

You're shooting for X number of hits on every target. As I recall, most of the time, X is one. There is more than one target per string. You can keep shooting until you're sure you've made your hit or hits. You can reload, you decide when you're done. When you decide you're done, if you have your hits your score is the time on the shot timer. Get your hits faster, stop earlier, you get a better score. As I recall, missing your hits on a target is heavily penalized-- better to take more shots and a longer time and get the hits.

If you miss a lot, take more ammo. If you never miss, go with 60 per string.

A dozen rounds per target seems high to me, but that's me.

Seems to me there was four strings (at four separate stations) in the last steel match I shot.

If it is Steel Challenge Match
At a quick glance 5 targets a stage, looks like 5 strings with one exception, worst string gets thrown out.
So minimum of 25 rounds a stage assuming no misses....

My general match rule is always bring at least twice as much ammo as I think I might need.
Generally from 2 different loading sessions just in case for some reason I managed to mess up a whole batch. (hasn't ever happened yet but Murphy knows me......):)
