Hello all....I'm new to the forum here, but I can't seem to figure this one out.
I bought an Uberti 1861 Navy a few months back....perfect gun, never even shot it....I sent it to R and D gun shop to convert it for me using one of their conversion cylinders. Well....They screwed up pretty bad in my opinion.

They lined the barrel, which I did not want!!! I sent a letter with the gun that didn't say anything about lining anything...BUT, beyond that, now I have a good 0.016" - 0.020" end-shake in the cylinder. I called them and they seemed to indicate that the 0.016 - 0.020 end shake was OK, but I am a little skeptical. Anyone here have any thoughts on what value of end shake would be OK, and how much would be too much?? I have a few other Uberti guns and the cylinder end-shake is negligible...I like to be reasonable but this is just bad workmanship I think...

First off why did you accept the gun if you didn't want it relined? I'd have sent it back by return mail and asked for a replacement. Their screwup. Wonder if it was your bbl or someone elses???? I'd send it back now

Yep...You're right. I pretty much decided to send it back...I paid almost 400.00 for the conversion. That's too much money for them to botch it up. This is another example of "if you want it done right....do it yourself". I don't have the tools necessary to re-color case harden the port after it's ground, but even re-bluing the loading port would be better than this. A well done bluing job would be preferable to a screwed up gun...

Anyway, Great forum...good info

Thanks.
