So I've recently got into reloading and naturally asked the guy at the store what powder I should use for a 30-06 with 178 grain a-max. He gave me r15 and I can't find the correct loading for it anywhere! Any amount of help would be great! also I'll be shooting this out of federal brass, federal 210 primers and using Remington m700

Hornady has data in its "Garand" section.
Start load and max are reduced in deference to the Garands limited gas system.
I suggest a start of 45.0grn and max of around 50.0grn.
For reference purposes, RL15 is very close to burn rate of IMR4320. A tad slower than Varget or IMR 4064.
When you run out of RL15, get RL22.
Shop attendant probably gave you best of what was in stock.
Rl15 isn't a bad choice, just there are better for that bullet weight in the '06.

Added: Lee #2 has data. Also check Alliants web site!
