For quite some time, I have been looking for a way to secure a handgun (and other items) left in a vehicle when I HAVE to leave my firearm in it. I have looked at a lot of "$30 specials" that were, I thought, too thin and with a cheap kitchen cabinet looking lock that is too easily defeated. I know that no small safe is REALLY secure, but there HAD to be a better option.

Also, I did not want an electric lock to which I had to keep feeding batteries because this was to be a long term, leave it there forever and use it only when needed deal.

I found a reference on line to R&D Enterprises at www.handgunsafe.com and checked them out. On 12/18/05, I ordered one from them on line. They called on 12/19 to ask if I needed the more expensive shipping so that I could have it by Christmas. I opted for the slower, but cheaper, method. They shipped it that day and I got it on 12/23 anyway! I considered that very good and prompt service on their part!

The box is a thick, heavy guage metal and it has a very sturdy lock that is finger button activated and the lid spring opening. It also came with complete instructions and a very complete set of hardware to affix it permanently if you desire. It is just what I wanted and I consider it top quality. It will serve my needs very well.

If you are in search of something similar, give them a look. They are not cheap, but they are not cheaply built either.
