Well I took this beast out for some fresh air today ...pardon me ...cordite tainted air.

First Impressions: A big polymer gun, sizeable and I am not positive but it seems to be the same size as the SA XD .40 I used to have. Maybe slightly larger. Gun is in great condition with a few wear marks on slide. Barrel was dirty, yet cleaned up nicely with no trace of lead fouling. The mags were in pristine shape. First impressions were that I thought this guns was kept boxed, not taken out much. I cleaned it and oiled the rails, so lets go shooting.

Shooting Impressions: I was given a box of UMC 180 gr with gun purchase and bought a box of Atlanta Ammo Co. reloads to use so I could get used to this weapon. Let me say this ... I HAVE NEVER SHOT A GLOCK BEFORE ... EVER. I just never liked the grip angle, and always wanted something else. Plus I am cheap and I have always thought them overpriced when new. But this gun was a steal in my mind. So, I have to get used to the Glock trigger and sights and grip. The trigger was not bad, just something to get used to, no better or worse then a BHP, not as good as Colt Commander and better then others in my past. The reset seems a little long, but practice with it will improve my trigger feel. Recoil was stout, but no worse then the Commander, probably a little sharper yet more controllable due to barrel length and grip. Sights were ok to use, white dot in a U rear. I did have better results with aim when I used a slightly bent arm hold instead of a straight arm lock that I could use with other guns. But this is not uncommon and probably better form anyways.

Shooting Results: Accuracy was superb. When I did my job, no flinching, pushing out and down or pulling trigger correctly, rounds went to 9/10 rings consistently. At ten yards I was able to put 18 out of 20 inside the 9 with 8 of those in 10. We wont discuss the other two shots ....I would have to find them first. At 25 yards I could put 20 into a 8 inch hi viz target. That is BHP accuracy for me ... I moved the target up to 7 yards and did some 20 rds of double taps and 3 rds blast as fast as I could. The double taps were easy, with the sights falling right back down to the target zone. The big grip and barrel seems to keep the gun on a vertical recoil path more then any other big bore gun I have shot. There was no horizontal movement to the gun during recoil. No other gun i have owned was as fun to shoot rapidly as a Steyr M9, until this G20 just about tied it. Close but that M9 was a giggle machine.

Shooting Issues: I had 4 FF in 100 rds. A simple push on 2 kept them going, a slight pull and release on the slide chambered the 2 others. Maybe the spring is worn ... I am going to order a 22# Wolf replacement spring soon. But first a real thorough cleaning is in order.

Conclusion: Maybe I should have tried a Glock sooner ... This is a great gun, one I will happily carry bird hunting as pig/bear protection, maybe use it as my first Deer/Wild Boar Hunting handgun and definetly as a house gun. It is useless as a ccw choice in warm months, maybe with a jacket, as it just seems immense to me and I know immense (6ft and 250#) Maybe I will have to try a G17/19 for CCW?

Does 10mm Power + Shot Placement/Accuracy = Kunamatata (No Worries)?:neener:

Glock model 20

I too fell into a Glock model 20 at a right price, mine was a gift. I think many folks misunderstand this beastie. I would not at all be hesitant to take on a black bear or hog with mine, with proper loads of course. Ted Nugent took a large warthog on his last African safari with a Glock 20 shooting the 135gr. Cor-Bon load, he said he took it at a hair over 100 yards. Way to go Ted!

The G20 is to big for me, so I opted for it's smaller sibling: G29. However, I do not hunt. So, it became useful as a carry pistol only. It shot marvelously. Moreover, since I have smallish hands and the price of 10mm ammo was prohibitively expensive in my local, I opted for a 10mm kurz conversion. That wasn't quite enough to convince me to carry it on a even semi daily basis!!!! It doesn't quite fit my hand, as does my G30. Both are safe queens!!!

I'm 6'2", 200lbs and I can conceal my G20 under a Hawaiian shirt just fine during the summer.

ahahaha

Lone, that was funny ... mean but funny.

As you can see I live in Atlanta ... the land of Khaki and Polo shirts. If I started wearing Hawaiin shirts here, the powers that be would ship my rear end back to Yankee land in a heart beat.

First rule of living with the enemy ... blend in.

Untucked polos print like crazy, especially when the humidity is high, and they get sweaty.

An untucked shirt would work, but doesnt put forth the right image in some social situations.

The Glock 20 was not designed to be a concealed weapon, so why try to make it do something for which it was not intended?

Axeman, to answer the question at the end of your original message, the formula is actually much simpler than your equation...

its more like : shot place = kunamatata

Congrats on your G20. It's a great pistol, and, with the option of extra drop-in barrels, you've got yourself a 4 caliber shooter. (10mm, 40S&W, .357Sig & 9x25 Dillon :) )

Preban hi-cap mags are expensive, but it's hard to beat 15+1 in 10mm firepower. Supposedly, CDNN has "excellent condition" used prebans for under $100.

Whether or not the G20 was originally "designed" to be concealable is largely irrelevant, as the market for CCW gear exploded following passage of "Shall-Issue" CCW legislation in the 1990s. Today you can find a quality concealment rig that'll fit and hide just about any handgun (with the exception of real "behemoth" autoloaders, like the Desert Eagles, Wildeys and Automags).

Yeah, the G20 isn't tiny, but it's do-able even in the hot summer time. Several 10Ringers (on GlockTalk) from Texas and Florida carry theirs in similar weather. But you're right that one's build and dress have a lot to do with effective concealment.

Just a suggestion, but you might consider a SideArmor IWB rig. These are light-weight, hold the gun very securely, conceal well and the polymer-like material is unaffected by one's grimy body-sweat. ;)

HTH.

$80 demo pre-bans. That's a really good price. I have 4 preban G20 magazines myself, and thought I was lucky to get them for $100 apiece last spring.

Guess what I use? :D
