I have a DPMS LR308 with a 24" stainless fluted barrel. I got it zero'd with FGGM ammo. I am currently working up hand-loads for it. My last load was 43gr. of RL15 under a Sierra 168 HPBT.
As the first target shows...I was astonished with the first two shots. They went into one hole. The the third went left a quarter inch....not too shabby still. Then, the barrel was warm and the point of impact radically shifted to the southwest. The next four rounds landed in a good group, but an inch and a half away from my cold zero. It stayed there until the barrel cooled.
The next target shows the result of letting the barrel cool a bit. My zero returned nearly to the original point of impact for the first shot. Then, as the barrel resumed it's hot temperature, it shifted back to the southwest again. The group is still decent, but away (far away) from my point of aim.
Has anyone else experienced this with their DPMS rifle? Could this be a symptom of needing to be stress relieved?
