I finally got to sight in my 17hmr today. The range was 90 yards with varying winds.Shot 17 gr hornady varmint express, the target shown was shown was shot with those, cci 20 gr fmj,and cci 17gr tnt.The target is the last 5 shots of the day.
The 20 grain fmj definitely has a different poi. There were several split casings with the hornady, none with the cci. There have been a lot of people complaining about the cases splitting and the very first shot with the hornady did.
The scope is 4.5x14-42 pentax ao and I was pretty impressed. The scope is mounted on burris signature rings. At 75 yards or so the wind effects the tiny bullet some, but at around 100 on up you have to be on your toes.
The rifle performed flawlessly and the scope passed the box test with flying colors. The rifle appears to shoot all the ammo comparably, but there are different poi.I'll probably set up for the 17 gr cci as I can get it cheaper.
Don't know what I'll use the rifle for other than some small varmints at friends places, but it sure is fun to shoot.

Nice shooting.

How does the crown of your BV look? What was the overall average of the groups you shot (at particular ranges)?

The crown looks good, good uniform pattern after shooting and no rough places. That group is right at .565 from edge to edge. All of my groups seemed to be about the same(the best ones).I had several groups at different ranges with a flyer here and there that I think was caused by me,or it could have been the wind.I'm not a good enough shot to tell much difference between the different ammo.
I had one 3 shot group at 50 yards that either they went thru the same hole or 2 got blown all the way off the paper. On the backer the hole looked big,but I have never shot anything close to that before.I didn't do it again and probably never could. That happened with the cci fmj.

if that is the 17hmr , and not the m2, you should be able to take all kinds of varmints, to include coyotes out to about 75 yards.

There are a lot of coyotes on some friend's property a couple of counties away, but I'm leary of trying to shoot em with the 17-I was gonna use my 223 on them.He also has a lot of groundhogs, which is what I was gonna try the 17 on.
