Such a subjective question deserves wildly erratic answers. Here's mine:
i am leaning towards a springfield...my brother has an xd 45 and i love it.
Then buy an XD.

Ruger makes fine autoloaders.
Kahr makes fine autoloaders.
Springfield makes fine autoloaders.
Glock makes fine autoloaders.
Taurus (I forbid you)
S&W makes fine autoloaders.
FNH makes fine autoloaders.
Colt makes fine autoloaders.

Bingo!

Here Are My Rankings (In Order)~!

01. Without a doubt - Smith & Wesson
02. Runner Up - Colt
03. Close [but NO cigar] - Ruger
04. Honorable Mention - Springfield Armory [tied with] Kahr
05. Glock
06. FNH
07. Bringing up the rear - Taurus :scrutiny:

*FootNote- but what about SIG, Browning, Walther, and Beretta~? :uhoh:

My ratings

Sig Sauer
Beretta/Glock/Springfield/ Walther

I shoot my Sigs very well, but all of the above gun manufacturers (which I consider essentially equals) produce excellent products that are extremely reliable.

Gee, and what is your favorite flavor of pop...
what actor/actress is your favorite

And your point is???
these are value judgments, and there is no answer, please deal with it.

for what its worth, I was die hard set against glocks all around.......until I shot one. For me its just the most natural pointer and shoots excellent. Granted I haven't shot every gun listed here but I just dont think that it could get much better than glock. Also glock has a great service dept. and an excellent reputation. So I ate crow and bought a glock, the only regret I have is being bull headed and not buying one sooner! :banghead:

Reading your words was almost like I had written them myself. I basically only gave Glock a chance to humor the guys who had bashed into my head how truly great they are. Those of you who read my thread, I won't bore you with the story so here's the point: I went to the range knowing they had 3 guns I wanted to shoot with the XDM9 being the forerunner...I left about an hour later with a black case that said GLOCK & can only thank the guys on here who pushed me to at least try 1 out. In the past, I'd pawed several Glocks but none felt nice at all so I put that out there to the guys on this board who suggested the G19 & 23 were right. The 19 fits like they used my own hand for the mold & it shot more accurate than the XDM & the M&P did for me (I put a full box through all 3 guns).
Now since the OP was talking about the XDM45 let me say that I'm almost sold on getting one before I even try it out based on how I've wanted an XDM for over a year anyways, & now that my 9mm needs are met, I gotta fill that 45 slot! ($600 & change is in my price range).
My thread was quite similar to yours & the guys have also told me to steer clear of Taurus so why don't ya just "fuhgettaboutit".

Redheads............... only if red all the way. Don't care much for Glocks.
Cisco

All of them except Taurus are exceptional companies. Taurus is the only one I have had a gun returned to for warranty work, actually three guns. That's unheard of.

Non-1911 Autoloaders:

Glock
Springfield (XD pistols)
S&W (M&P pistols)
FNH
Kahr
Ruger
Taurus

Most all of them make fine handguns. But leaving the Walther name off the list is a mistake, in my view. I would personally buy a Walther P99/AS over the products and offerings of every one of the manufacturers on your list. And, having owned one Taurus, I'd never own another -- but that's just me.

I have to admit, that was funny!

Ok, this thread is 2 months old, but what the H#LL, here goes anyway.

First, many excellent gun companies have been left off your list. An secondly, who is the best? That is the question that is always asked, and the answers are never very satisfying (at least to me) As one member said - you'll get wildly erratic answers with such a subjective question. The answer is that there is no OBJECTIVE way to say who would rank from first to last on that list. If you want to buy a gun, the first thing you need to ask yourself is - how is this gun going to be used? Range? Concealed Carry (Pocket? IWB? OWB?) Plinking? Home Defense? 4th of July celebrations? ;) Depending on the answer, some manufacturers might fill the specific niche better than others, and the opinions given by many members would better reflect that. When the gun search begins, you don't need to know what gun to buy, but you do need to know what it's intended purpose will be. The rest isn't hard to figure out. There's lots of good guns out there - and forget about the brand loyalty BS.

How are you going to use your gun?
