For a beginning reloader, would you recommend the chargemaster electric scale powder dispenser combo, or go with the more traditional powder thrower and balance beam scale?

That's a good question coming from a newbe. I highly recomend one for anyone that reloads simply very nice unit's. PM coming your way.

Well the Chargemaster is nice. I recommend it but I also use a traditional powder thrower a lot. You could buy the scale that is part of the combo and a powder thrower and upgrade to the dispenser at a later time if you are low on cash.

Wildyams: I would suggest that you learn and understand the basics of reloading before you get into sophisticated loading equipment like the RBS Chargemaster. I understand that new gadgets are cool things and fun to have, but know what you're doing first. I'm suggesting this as a fellow reloader with over forty years of experience who wants to keep you safe and out of trouble. :)

I've heard from quite a few people to stick to the basics, just wasn't sure if they meant that as far as powder measuring went too. Thats the main reason why I bought a RockChucker instead of something fancier

An electronic scale is nice and faster. I love my RCBS Chargmaster Combo. However, I too recomend learning the basics. But when the time comes, you won't be disapointed with the RCBS Chargmaster.

Hey W-yams,

I use the RCBS Chargemaster Combo for extruded powders for rifle. If I am loading something pistol wise and I am not running my Dillon Powder measures, I have 3 Uniflows that I think are absolutely spot on. You will need a good mechanical scale as well. I have 3, 2 x 510's (one for my mini bench in my house and one for my motor home) and 1 x RCBS 1010 for The Cave. I use my Main Uniflow on my 550B as well sometimes. Depends on my mood and what I am loading and what type of powder, etc...

I recommend you getting the RCBS 505 scale and a Uniflow. Perhaps even a trickler and a good old fashioned set of Lee Dippers. I have loaded 1K's upon 1K's of ammo with this. I must admit a good mechanical scale and Lee Dippers will also get the job done. Simply drop the main part of the charge with apropriate dipper and then trickle with the dipper direct to scale pan. A bit old school but really works well.

Wildyams, did you get one? What do you think about it?

I am thinking about getting a combo, but still have some questions. Is there another one I should look at?

Does it drift at all? (Mine will be about 5 feet away on a table that is attached to the table my press is on - do you guys think that would affect it much?)

I know its advertised as being on to + or - .1 do you guys think that is true. Is this right, or more accurate, or less?

Any other thoughts?

Wideners had the bottom half on sale for $168 (not the dispenser). So I ordered one. I have been disappointed in digital scales up to now but maybe this one will do the trick. Until funds avail, I will load it with dipper and trickler.
