RCBS Progressive - Shellplates / shellholders

I am about to place a new order with Midway for accessories for the RCBS Pro 2000 I received for Christmas. (RCBS customer support is only available M-Th).

It is my understanding that I need separate RCBS shellplates based on cartridge caliber. Correct?

I also assume that I will need 5 shellholders for each different type of cartridge (recognizing that some cartridges can use the same shell holder).
Correct?

Also, is there pro's and con's of different manufacturer shellholders for the RCBS? (I currently have Redding, Lee, and RCBS).

I'd do some research. I don't know anything about RCBS progressive's, but on the Hornady and Dillon units you have a single shellplate that you use for a given caliber. Depending on the calibers you're loading you might only need one for a family of calibers and then just different dies.

Each shellplate has spaces (shellholders) for five cartridges & some shellplates can be used for more than one caliber. For example, the one I use for 45ACP can be used for 45GAP as well. You might check out the RCBS website...lots of good info there.

I don't know of anyone else that makes shellplates for the PRO2000 other that RCBS.

I think they are called shellholders on a single stage press. On a progressive they are called shellplates and you only need one per caliber. If you are lucky one may do two or more calibers. I have not been that lucky as the calibers I reload can not use a common shellplate.

Its a good idea to get a die plate for each caliber as well. It costs a few dollers but saves the time to reset the dies every time you change.

The Pro2000 shell plates are for a particular head size for the cartridge. You will need to buy the ones you are going to load for. I have about 7 of them now and yes it does represent a significant investment per caliber family.

If you find some other source let us know. I thought RCBS is the only one.
