Ok, so my next project is to re-barrel my 338 Lapua Sako TRG-42. I have one of the older ones with the 12 twist and want to rebarrel with a nice 10 twist match grade barrel. I've been looking at Krieger and Lilja barrels. I have a gun smith that will do the work, however he hasn't ever re-barreled a TRG before. My question for the forum is has anyone here re-barreled a TRG-42 before? Most importantly, What barrel, contour, and length did they go with? Any other tips about re-barreling this rifle?

BTW, I also have a stock Sako muzzle brake that I want to reuse on the new barrel.

My shooting partner Ray recently had his original barrel replaced with a new one. I believe it was a straightforward job, just remember that if you use the TRG bipod your maximum barrel OD will be limited by it.

OK, so my gunsmith says he has the action wrench for the Sako TRG-42 and the 338 Lapua reamers. I ordered a SS 1.250 straight Krieger barrel in a 10 twist. I'm assuming 1.250 is enough for the tendon but I'm thinking we will want to turn down the rest of the barrel. I'm afraid a straight 1.250 will be too heavy for this action. Any comment on how heavy I could/should keep this barrel? Its going to be 29 inches finished.
