Would reboring a Remington Model 7400 (it's a Model Four, to be precise) chambered in .308 to .358 Winchester be a fairly straightforward job?

I'm concerned that .358 may be a bit much for the action, although they did make the 7400 in .35 Whelen.

I'm also concerned about feeding issues. I don't think there would be a problem considering they use the same case, but I'm no expert

I have no intentions of doing it anytime soon. It's my favorite hunting rifle and I'm trying to get an idea of what I'd like to do with it many years down the road when accuracy begins to suffer.

I am not trying to crack wise with you not at all but if you are up in what we call (mature) status don't think you will wear that Rem out before they plant you my sons are gonna inherit some used but well maintained rifles that will still do 1 moa @ 100.

That's what I was thinking when I first got the rifle. Turns out I like shooting it so much that I've been putting several hundred rounds through it every year. It was lightly used when I got it, so there probably wasn't that many rounds sent through it before I got it.

I figure at 300 rounds a year it can't last more than 3 decades or so. I hope to still be around and kicking then. I'm just planning for the future, if it'll be a pain to rebore it I'll have to slow my shooting down to extend it's life.

I like the idea. I’m a fan of the .358 Win. Hunted deer with my .358 win. BLR since the early 80’s. I reload for it using everything from 180gn to 250gn.
