Recently I purchased a 10 round Magpul AR mag from a guy on Ebay. His listing didn't mention it was for a AR, it just said 5.56/Remington. I emailed him asking if it was a standard AR mag and he said yes but if he uses the words (AR 15) ebay will pull the listing. I found this strange since their rules state any magazines 10 rounds and under meet their guidelines but state laws do apply.

I'm doing some 500 yard shooting at my uncles gun club this weekend so I went ahead and purchased the magazine. 2 days ago I checked the tracking # and the sellers ebay account was gone and so was the listing. I said it was removed by Ebay. It said he sold 7 other magazines already with one remaining so I wondered what made my transaction different.

Ebay will not ever give you details on why an item was removed. What's weird is the money was deducted out of my account through paypal but paypal doesn't show record of the transaction either. The good thing is the magazine showed up yesterday.

When I was finishing the payment it had a disclaimer asking if I was buying for my use and some other (interstate trafficking) stuff I don't remember. I'm in Indiana and I can buy magazines so do you think it's because the seller was in Illinois?

I know ebay is anti-guy. Any thoughts?

BTW this is my first Magpul magazine and WOW I was not disappointed in the quality. It even came with a dust cover. It was around $17 bucks with shipping.

I'm just at a loss as to why you would bother with ebay to pay above the going rate for a readily available item.

Ebay is great for finding rare gun parts.
However, they have ridiculous policies.
Any mention of an "assault rifle" by name, AK47, AR15, etc...will get the listing pulled, even if its not a part for an assault rifle.
Example...I sold an SKS-M stock on Ebay recently. The first listing was removed because I referenced an AK47 magazine as fitting the stock. The second listing only remained because SKS-M slipped through their filter.

I looked locally for a 10 rounder and couldn't find one. Other websites charged $5-10 shipping before I added the price of the product. I don't think under $17 was a bad deal.

eBay is terrible for selling gun parts. I was selling a Crimson Trace grip for a Ruger P-series and had to edit the article because I listed the model numbers the grip would fit.

I agree, but it's a CYA move. Private parties make up a huge percentage of the sellers, and many of them would be unfamiliar with individual state laws as an online gun parts/accesssories retailer would be. They're just trying to avoid litigation, should a part be sold and shipped under their label to a place where it is prohibited.

On the flip side, so long as you know how to word the ad, you can basically sell anything but the serialized receiver. They don't actively police the ads, because if you misrepresent a 30 round mag as a 10 rounder and it goes to CA, it's on you and the buyer. As far as eBay knew, it was a CA legal 10 round magazine.

Yeah, I thought about adding something. That said, I haven't had any issues with magazine orders from them.

I've ordered magazines from Botach quite a few times.

Only good things to report.

For magazines I wouldn't hesitate to order from them.

Don't forget about armslist for stuff like that. I've come across a few good local deals on things.

The eBay listing may simply have been reported as a violation by a busy body, and dutifully "investigated" and deleted by an eBay staffer. There are plenty of folks on eBay - self styled activists and "experts" policing eBay listings - they frankly need to get a life.

I modified an entire 870 shotgun from choke to buttstock from Botach. Had one thing that needed a contact with customer service that added a couple weeks to the project. They are a pretty good company.
