Hey guys,

It's another Ruger Mk II 22/45 owner stepping up with reassembly problems! Don't get me wrong, I've owned this gun for several years and have field stripped it many times, that isn't a challenge. But I ran into a problem after a routine cleaning the other day.

I field stripped it, gave it it's fix of CLP, and began to reassemble. However, when I was reinserting the recoil assembly to the bolt, it simply wouldn't fit... It seemed odd to me, but it was just to dang long.
For reference, see this photo: http://www.wiztechs.com/knightsrealm/guns/22-45/boltdiagram.jpg The recoil assembly (on far left) won't insert back into the bolt.

At first I thought the recoil assembly might be bent or something, as I found on this trusty website (problem number 6): http://www.1bad69.com/ruger/field_strip_pcs.htm

But it seemed straight to me. I am obviously missing something here guys, anyone ever run into this problem? Advice? Thanks guys

Just a guess . .did you pull the trigger and drop the hammer? (with the barrel pointed down) The only other thing that I have to do is make 3/4 of a circle with the barrel pointed in the air to get the rod coming off the back of the hammer to drop into the spring thing in the assembly at the back. (possibly I'm misunderstanding your problem though)

Uh --- how can it be too long, when it's spring-loaded? :uhoh:

It has to be "noodged" in. The half-moon in the slot, then a fingernail grab onto the fork, and clicked into the slide recess.

The half-moon shaped piece that fits on the front of the bolt. Grasp it and give it a little twist as you compress the spring. Sometimes they stick.

:uhoh: Did I really miss something that obvious? :uhoh:

thanks guys, problem solved.

:what: :what: :what:
Uh, the end with the hole points the other way! :D :D :D

Glad you're up and running! I was out with mine today (6-7/8", ATN red dot). It cracks everyone up at the range. We generally shoot bigger stuff (I'm the lone 22-er in the group), but everyone gets a kick out of the "sewing-machine needle."

I know some folks have had problems with Mk IIIs, but mine is a jewel. Scary-accurate. PITA to clean. So what?

Just wait until you get the urge to do a trigger upgrade. :D :D :D
