Technically this thread belongs here but it might have worked well in the rifle optics sub-forum also. I need to decide what sights I am going to use on my AR pistol build. I am almost done with a 300 BO pistol build. Just a few more parts to acquire before I can finish the build. It's going to have an SBA3 pistol brace on it, 9 inch barrel with a hand-guard that will be just shy of the muzzle for a nice transition to the SDN-6 suppressor I have.

I realize I am going to have to get some sights and/or optic for this new AR and I am not sure what I want to use. I want to keep it relatively light weight and compact (no large objective rifle scope for example). It will be used for the occasional close range carbine match, as a truck/UTV gun around the hunting property, and maybe some close range deer/coyote/varmint hunting. Probably max range at a match would be ~120 yards, less if I am hunting with it.

I am not opposed to iron sights, but would want something relatively snag resistant and non-folding. I would prefer to stay away from the folding BUIS sight for the most part. Optics are always an option but for this gun I would want to the ability to turn the magnification down to 1x or very very close to 1x. Red dot in all their forms are thus acceptable recommendations.

This is primarily a fun gun so I am completely open to something new, funky, and outside of the conventional box. Lets keep the suggestions under $500 unless you think it's uber cool and way outside the conventional box.

As an example of something funky I am considering a Meprolight FT Bullseye pistol sight on some RMR AR mount if I can figure out how to make it adjustable so I can sight it in. That might require some machining on my part which I am totaling in for. A project for my little CNC is always an option.

I would love to hear what you guys recommend and/or are using on you AR-15 300 Blackout pistols.

I would either go with a nice set of iron sights for dependability, or a Holosun/Sig Romoe5/Vortex red dot for speed. I just took the red dot off my 16" carbine, and went back to iron sights, and have to say that they aren't as slow as I remember.

I prefer irons. . . but I'm very clear that my 300BO is for close-up pistol/carbine work. I have a UTG Low Pro front (yes, I know. . .), and an MI fixed rear. It's as drop-resistant as any setup could be, and cost ~$50.

Sig Romeo 5 and flip-up BUIS.
I did a similar setup on my 16 inch pencil barrel 556 gun. Vortex Sparc AR and some flip-up BUIS. I guess I could repeat that on this gun but I thought I would ask for suggestions. I sort of want to try something new.

My AR pistol is my favorite AR. Since I never warmed up to peep sights, I left them off of this build, and totally rely on my reflex sight. Mine is s Sightmark but I wouldn't recommend that. I think there are better RDS out there now, with more battery life.
It performed well on this day: 20180819_164719.jpg AR pistol with .22 conversion kit.
If you're going solo red dot......make it a good one.

Aimpoint PRO. Aimpoint quality at an affordable price. You should be able to find for just under $500

Primary Arms Advanced Micro. Long battery life and rugged enough to give you years of trouble free service. The glass isn't quite as good as an Aimpoint but for about $130, it's an excellent value. We've had one for over a year and we like it.

Leupold VX-R Patrol 1.24-4x. Lightweight, rugged, clear optics, good turrets. I got mine for just over $500 with Leupold cantilever mount. Reticle has an illuminated dot. The battery has lasted more than six months although I've never turned it off. The dot turns off after awhile but the slightest motion and it comes on instantly. 1.25x isn't quite true 1x, but it's close enough to make no difference. Few, if any, LPVs are actually true 1x anyway, no matter what the makers claim (close enough that it doesn't matter, though).

ETA- Changed to "Primary Arms Advanced Micro. I know a guy who is a trainer and his Advanced Micro has held up to thousands of rounds of shooting so far.

I have a Bushnell First Strike on mine, because it's what I had laying around, but there are better ones. The two mentioned above are excellent.

I have both the SPARC and the strikefire from vortex- happy with both, for the $- and hard to beat their warranty.
I have a Spark AR on a 16-inch 556 carbine and s Vortex 2.5-10 x 44 scope on my 450 BM. I agree for the money Vortex it's pretty good.

I made the thread hoping there was something new and unique to try on an AR pistol.

If it was me I'd move the Sparc AR to the Blackout pistol and put a low power variable or 3-4x prism on the carbine.
For the record I followed my own advice. My 8" blackout has a SPARC AR and my M4 ish has a Burris 3x prism.

Aimpoint Micro might be an option to consider, sits low, quick acquisition of target.

I put a Sig Sauer Romeo4M red dot on my 5.56 pistol. Small, not bulky. Much faster acquiring a sight picture.
