Anybody using Red Dot in their 40 cal,I am looking for some good data on 175grn lee lead tc,and a load for 145 lee lead semi wadcutter.I have had some luck with 4.5grns red dot with 145 lswc.:)

I have not had good luck accuracy wise with the real fast powders in .40. They shoot just fine up close, but not at a distance. Haven't tried Red Dot though.

700X for a fast powder in .40 and Universal for a medium powder. Haven't played with slow ones.

Well I loaded up some 175grn lee lead TC bullets with 4.0 grns of Red Dot,pretty darn accurate at 20 yds,and at 900fps seems pretty mild in a 40.Maybe bench some after work if weather permits.3.8 grn seems slugish,4.2 seems about the same with more snap.

Red Dot is fast, but " bulky." I load it in 9MM from time to time, and it works well. A double charge will overflow the case, giving you a safety factor.

.40 operates at similar pressure and expansion ratio, so there's no good reason not to give it try.

I have been running test loads of MBC bullets (9/40/45) and out of curiosity ran some 180 gr TCFP with Promo (I am using Red Dot data). I normally use W231/HP38 for 40S&W.

Starting with 4.0/4.2 gr with 1.125" OAL, shot groups were running 2" average at 7-10 yards (With W231/HP38, I can usually run less than 1" groups at 7-10 yards).

This was a quick test, and I was below the starting load (I was curious and bored). I will be running the next test with above the starting load charges of 4.5 gr and 4.7 gr - I anticipate that shot groups will decrease.
