what brands/ models of red dot sights are there that are reasonably good quality, without taking out a loan to get it:eek:'

a 1-2 power, any reticle (crosshairs, dots, chevrons, etc.)

decent quality, in the $100-200 range.

millet less than $100 http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=459296
ultradot litlle over $100 http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=615022
bushnell less than $100 http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=310814

I hear the millets are great for the $, dont have one though. I have a ultradot on a 6" 357mag and its very good. Holds zero and has a decent dot. Dont have much experience with bushnell, but have seen them on turkey shotguns, not sure how thats going to work out.

I have a Sightmark that I got from Sportsman's Guide for about $50. It holds zero okay, but doesn't have deluxe features. Adjustments are by allen wrench, only has four reticle patterns, and I don't like the battery cover on top of the light switch. Okay for cheap set-and-forget, but I think I'll look at something a little nicer if I decide to replace it.

I too have been doing some research and have relegated myself to spending around $350 for an Eotech. They may be overpriced perhaps, but the satisfaction factor is high if you read the reviews. And they easily move from gun to gun and maintain zero.

When it comes to optics A) It's a very competitive market, which is good for the consumer and B) You get what you pay for regarding material and labor. ie. lens, tube, build, tolerance, robust, complexity etc.

I would like some magnification but for the first round I am equipping a Ruger Mini 14 for 50-75 yard suburban defense use. It could also serve will on a 10/22.

Perhaps Bushnell has gotten their act together on a $100 scope?? Many of the reviews were back a few years.

Have you ever compared a pair of cheap binoculars to a decent pair? World of difference and I suspect this is true with scopes to a large degree.

I have a Millett 1" for my CZ Kadet. It had to go back to the factory as the optics were way off, giving me a double image. My friend even confirmed it, so wasn't just my eyesight.:p

The one they sent me back is still slightly off, but I can live with it.

OTOH my cheap BSA works just fine and it only cost $30.

i like to buy once, and not 2 or 3 times, eotech and or aimpoint are my choices, eotech being my favorite, that is why i have one on my rifle.

I have a bushnell trophy on my AK. It works just fine and I have no desire to spend more than that.

I have the Millet SP-1 mounted on a Henry 22 mag for night time critter duty. I love it. Great during the day for (expensive) plinking and great at night also. Just don't run out the door at night and turn the knob the wrong way. As in full brightness. Can't see squat through it when ya do that.

I have an Aimpoint 2X power red dot. It would probably be better suited to a rifle. I also Have Millett, Jpoint and others.

^^ wow. I'm sure not what to make of that gbran. What kind of pistol is that?

I have the bushnell

on my Beretta CX-4 Storm in 40sw. I like the scope but the battery life is less than good. I have left it on by accident and gone through 5 batteries in 3 months. My Aimpoint lasted for ever and I am upset I traded it with the gun it was on.

Since the Aimpoint M4 has come out people are selling their older M2 and M3 sights. You might pick one up in your price range. BSW

I hear a lot of people compare the battery life of the cheaper scopes with the Aimpoints or other high end scopes. You can buy a LOT of batteries for the price difference between the two. I'm not going to spend hundreds more because I can't remember to turn the stupid thing off. I also keep a few spare batteries in the grip of my AK. So far I'm on the original battery with my Bushnell. I also don't see the necessity as the sight is so easily removed from my AK that if the battery goes dead or the scope becomes damaged I can simply unclamp it and use the regular sights.

I have the Bushnell 1X32 MP scope on my AR, it was definitely the best choice by far when it came to price, nothing can come close.
Its not a red dot sight, its an illuminated T-dot reticle so definitely easier to use, and quicker.
