I have a P320RX with Sig's Romeo1 sight. I've had the gun for a while and it's held it's zero. Is a red dot sight losing it's zero common, or is it something that rarely happens with the understanding that the answer will vary depending on the quality of the sight.

To my understanding, it's pretty uncommon for an optic from a reputable manufacturer to lose zero these days (Leupold, Trijicon). When I changed the battery on my Glock-mounted RMR, I think adjusted it a click or two the next time I went to the range, well under 1 MOA and within my own margin of error.

Some of the Chinese-made offerings like those from SIG are also getting pretty good too; I have a Rome 5 on my HD AR pistol that is doing well in the early stages of testing and others have reported great results too.

I've had it happen with a cheap reflex red dot. After a lot of use, many months after I purchased it, the sight stopped holding zero.

It did a very strange thing: it gave me one of two possible points of impact or groups, even in the same session! The mount was good and I couldn't understand what was going on.

Turns out, some play had developed between the glass and the frame. The angle of the glass was not constant which means the projection of the dot on the glass was not consistent. It was only a small difference but it translated to a big point of impact change downrange.

I've had Odd Job's experience too. I was able to fix it by re-tightening the retaining ring and adding a very small drop of Loc-Tite 290 ("wicking" grade).
