Good Morning Just joined a few days ago looking for help to restore power to my dad's old 1940 era Red Ryder no. 111 model 40 Reading colbalt327's thread "Putting a little more power in a $15 Daisy I learned how to breakdown my dad' Red Ryder. I order a set of leather seals from ebay an installed them, which improved the performance.

Has any one tried to install a 13/16" brake cylinder cup instead of the leather seal in a old Red Ryder no.111 model 40. If so did it work

Thank You

The easiest and arguably best way to convert to synthetic (read "rubber") seals is to use the parts made for the current Daisy 25 pump gun. I wrote a bit about that HERE.

While the synthetic seals are not original, they do have the advantage of causing a lot less oil fouling of the shot tube (Daisyspeak for the barrel). That matters because accuracy is ruined by oil in the shot tube of a smoothbore steel BB shooting gun. Another advantage is the air tube will be the new style and won't be prone to breaking off like the originals did. And of course the new parts cost less.

Good luck.

The 13/16" brake cylinder cup is to big for a Red Ryder no.111 model 40 The brake cylinder cup measures 13/16" half down the side of the cup which means the cup edge is to big I tried sanding down the cup edge and it shot bbs but not real strong I sanded down to much I was planning on trying a 3/4" cup but never got back to NAPA So I put new leather seals in the model 40 and it now shoots like new I may play with the 3/4" cup later
