I'm just wondering if leaving powder in a Redding 10x-pistol powder measure will discolour the polymer/plastic container?

The reason I ask is the threads on it are quite tight (first problem I've had with redding equipment) and I've mounted it on my T7. I don't fancy taking the wrench out after loading up 50 rounds to empty it everytime.

There is no risk of mixing it up as I only have Vihta N340 at hand for pistol.

Anybody any experience with leaving powder in this powder measure?

Cheers

I am very good friends with a petroleum chemist who is also an avid reloader. He claims that certain smokeless powders have the tendency to leach the plastizer out of the powder tube which then weakens the potency of the powder itself. I have no way of verifying this myself, but i do empty my powder reservoir after each reloading session. If my memory serves me correctly, Skeeter Skelton once wrote about this happening in an older Shooting Times article many years ago, and that powder was Unique.

It will, eventually. I recently replaced mine after 10 plus years of service. I could see through it, but it was really tinted. The new one is nice since it is clear again. Cheap too.

I do like loadedround, and most reloaders, and empty the measure every time.

Thanks for the replies.

Walkalong I always remove the powder from my powder measures but as I said the trouble is the pistol measure has very tight threads. I haven't stripped them, they are just off-spec after degreasing and then very very lightly oiling them.

I guess the only viable solution is to pack it up and ship it back to be replaced.
