Remington's coming out with a line of new "Managed Recoil" ammo this year.

Supposedly works like a charm out to roundabouts 200 yards.

1/2 the recoil.

Is this all a bunch of crap (read "ineffective)?
Or a decent product (except adds limitations)?

Here's the link.

Well they load the 30-06 way down ,instead of 180@2700 it's 125@2660. So you might as well use a 30-30 ! There's no miracle here .

Still, it seems a viable option for extended practice sessions at the range with your centerfire to supplement your frequent practice with a rimfire to prepare for the upcoming deer season. If the recoil is 50% of normal, you could practice your marksmanship on standard targets double what you usually do, as you wouldn't be as sore the next day.

It's a conspiracy against reloaders!

It's great for people that don't reload. You can get a kid or newbie started on a rifle or hunting without the full recoil. If you only have a 30-06, it's nice to make it into a 30-30 sometimes.

Now, if Remington's marketing department is really smart, they'll take the same cartridges, put them in a black box, call it "Tactical CQB" ammo, and double the price. :D

Personally, I believe the "full-power" versions of most standard ammo is way overpowered for deer. Low-powered ammo is long overdue.

IIRC the reasoning behind it is you can buy your kid a rifle, use the reduced loads so it will not beat them around or scare them. Then when the kid is ready to shoot normal loads, you don't have to buy another rifle.

Heck, I know plenty of adults that don't cope too well with recoil.

If you can shoot 20 rds of 30-06 before you get flinchy (hardly warming up and you're already bruising), you might get 60 rds with a reduced load.
