This is my Browning BBR in .300 Win Mag w/Bausch & Lomb Elete 3000, 3X9X50 scope that my gunsmith has had for several months. It really hurt to shoot this rifle so I had him install an ultra soft recoil pad, recoil reducer in the stock and muzzle brake. I just picked it up Friday so I don't know how much of the recoil has been reduced..........hope I can find out soon.

Sounds good - let us know the results and the brand/model of the enhancements please.

I put a limbsaver on an Encore with a .450 Marlin barrel on it. The barrel is ported. The gun only weighs 7 1/2 pounds. It is at the extreme end of what I want to deal with regarding recoil but it doesn't even bruise my shoulder.

That limbsaver is a miracle pad. I am sure the porting helps.

I have never shot a .300 like yours but everyone I know who has says they are stout!

Let us know what the results of your efforts are.

hey, now... watch out for the jackalope! when they go into rut in late november they can get downright ornery. when their pelt primes in january, though, they are worth real m-o-n-e-y!

as far as recoil... i think you went overboard on its reduction, but, it will be reduced quite a bit. i have merc tubes, and i don't like them. brakes are extremely effective, but loud... so, i've gotten rid of everything excep decelerators and sims pads. pachymars on heavy kickers, sims on sharp kickers.

BBR Beauty

I have a similar BBR -complete with the leather sling; except in 30-06. It also recoils sharply. My guess is that the butt is too narrow, that is, it is like shooting with a piece of one inch thick plywood for a stock.

Of course, the recoil is reduced when the rifle is fired from standing; off of the bench.
I went to the reduced recoil or managed recoil rounds: 125 gn at approx 2600 fps, and will continue with those now. Perhaps you could experiment with handloadings to mitigate the 300 recoil, but of course, you will have to exchange for less power.

Have you ever had extraction problems with that sliver of sheet metal extractor? I havn't, but my gun was never fired continuously until it became hot. Any Savage owners experience such extractor problems either?

Hey fellow vet, it was me who sent the personal message "tour of duty."

dorgunr- should i be fortunate enough to reach 73, there's a good chance i'll look back on this and say something profound about youth and ignorance!

good luck on your rifle - i would like to hear what you think of your renewed rig... i'm a big fan of the 300 win mag, but will admit it is a kicker! i am thoroughly convinced it kicks harder than my 338 - by a long ways. however, my 300 seems to find things to knock down when i take it out (feral cats, deer, badgers, etc) - and the 338 doesn't. weird, huh? so, i shoot the 300 a lot more.
