BSA isn't what I would call high quality. Some of them are worse than irons.

The light on this one is a teeny weeny one, and the laser will be similar.

I would look for is a Burris XTS-135 or similar in a low mount with covers. They're about $200.

Minimum I would spend is about $100, lower than that the sight is going to be worse than just irons.

Just realized you said "battle ready". In that case, not even the Burris I mentioned will work. Save your pennies for an Aimpoint, it's true .mil standard and is a currently issued sight to the Army.

I would want something that is reliable, waterproof, shockproof, fogproof, and it would be best if made in the USA. I looked at the Bushnell HOLOsight, but it seamed a little to unprotected for a hard-use battle rifle, and it only has a 2 year warranty.

SPOT Mk.III (downgraded Burris XTS-135, not as good water/shock proofing) for appx $150 has gotten good user reviews & survived a torture test that destroyed the AR-15 it was mounted on, I wouldn't consider anything cheaper than that with the possible exception of the new Vortex Strikefire which looks good on paper but no user reviews yet: http://www.vortexoptics.com/riflescopes/view/vortex-strikefire-red-dot-riflescope-with-ar15-mount . However, if this is for possible "serious" use then save your pennies for an Aimpoint (how much is your life worth?...).

Thanks guys, I've decided that I'm going to buy the Vortex Strikefire. I researched it well and I realized it's what I've be looking for. Price range, warranty, Nitrogen filled, tuff, (made in the USA I believe), night vision compatable, ---everything. I'll send some pics when it's all ready.:)

Yay! My testing did not occur in vain! :D

I ordered my Vortex red dot, but I found out that it's not out yet. Anyway it's pre-ordered. Talked to the guy in charge of the designing/testing of it , says he is going to make some last minute improvements on it. Designed in Minnesota made in a Japanese run factory in China- excellent quality though. It's a family run company, they take a lot of pride in their products.:)

I used to be a fan of EoTechs, but I got tired of replacing the batteries while my Aimpoint CompML3 is still using the same batteries after a couple of years and I never bother to turn it off. I got curious to see if you could really get 50,000 hours of operation. I'll let you know if I get there.

I still like the EoTech sight picture better. If I bought another one, I definitely get the AA model (I have an early model that uses 'N' batteries) and get the MagPul MIAD grip or something similar for spare batteries.

As far as inexpensive red dots, the Millet is not too bad.

the only way a $200 optic is cheaper than a $500+ aimpoint is if you never shoot your gun.

My EOTech was $350. It takes AA batteries. I like it a lot. I also have a Millet Multidot. It has worked well on my .22, but the recoil from my FAL would mess it up.

I'm really looking forward to some real reviews on the Vortex unit. I think release has been pushed back to sometime next month.

OK never mind, release date has been officially pushed back to late August/September on the Strikefire.
