I am not sure this is the right place, but here it goes.

Buddy of mine got his CCW but is now questioning how self defense fits with his religious beliefs of Christianity. He has really dove into it in the last year and needs to see everything spelled out for him.

We have debated the subject twice now and I am not the biblical scholar that I (apparently) need to be to convince him that protecting himself, his wife and his child are 100% inline with his religion.

I have taken the common sense approach:
"If God didn't want you to preserve your life and protect you family, why would he give those things to you to take care of?"

And my best shot at the biblical approach:
"He said to them, 'But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.'" (Luke 22:36)

Has anyone gone through a similar debate and how did you use to make your case?

I'm sorry but while this is a serious topic, THR isn't the place to have that discussion. It's likely that it will get out of hand as different religions and even different denominations of the same religion will view this differently. I'm goinmg to close this but leave it visible and anyone who has some thoughts for the OP is free to PM him.
