Hi and thanks for the help in advance,

I'm fairly new to reloading but have a done a few hundred rounds of several different calibers, so starting to get my head around it.

Today I bought some 70gn Hornady GMX (guided metal) projectiles for my .223 to use on pigs. I have been using 62gn Barnes TSX which work well, but just wanted to try the Hornadys.

I can't find load data for these from anywhere. I use ADI 2206h simply because it's versatile for four calibers I reload. (The ADI site states this powder is equivalent to Hodgson H4895) Hornady say regular load data can be used for these slugs, but on their load chart I'm seeing lighter load weights of 2206h with lighter bullets which really concerns me.

So the comparative bullet weight is a Speer soft point @
70 GR. SPR SP AR2206H. 23.0 / 2782 / 40400 cup 25.0 / 2997 / 50500 cup
Now I understand that copper & guided metal projectiles already have different pressure aspects to them, (generally higher pressure I'm led to believe?) and then I see a lighter bullet with less powder suggested.
For example:
62 GR. SFT SCIR AR2206H 21.0 / 2740 / 42300 psi 23.0 / 3004 / 53000 ps
This was the comparative load I was using for the 62gn TSX's and loaded at suggested max they definitely went BOOM. Not that I had any visible issues (Tikka Superlite)

But the fact that the MINIMUM load for the 70gn is also the MAXIMUM load for a lighter projectile makes me hesitate to try it - even at the minimum recommended. Am I missing something here? Being too cautious?

It's just that blowing my face off isn't in my bucket list at all.

Thanks for the conversation and any light shed would be greatly appreciated

I also contacted hornady to see if they have load data for this bullet as I'm interested in it. I should get an email back sometime today.

That's really helpful 73ch13. Much obliged! I've book marked that page.

I'm confident the GMX and TSX are close enough for me to start at the minimum load.

Also I note it is 1.5 lower than the minimum for a Sierra HPBT of the same weight.

I'll be interested to hear what Hornady says too if you don't mind sharing

Cheers from down under
