Dies arrived a week or so ago, and bullets arrived yesterday. 370gr Acme coated flat points, and 340gr MBC flat points. Set the dies up for the 370gr Acme and made a dummy round. Wondering what you all think?

Hodgdon's data shows 1.640" for a 370gr bullet of this type by another manufacture, but I wanted to crimp at or near the center of the cannelure for this bullet. I think I got it pretty close.

Opinions or advice welcome.

My opinion is you should put a primer and some powder in them and go have fun. I haven't owned a 480 yet, but it is on the list.

A good crimp would be more important to me than oal. Just make sure that you work up the load paying attention to how full the case is with the bullet seated compared to the data you are mimicking. I rarely use the exact bullet for the data I have, but generally weight is the same and I figure out where the bullet base is in the case so it matches what the data is for.
Always work it up for your gun and you'll be fine.

Love the way that cartridge looks with that bullet in it.

Cool, missed part 2 but I see you decided to load for it.
Hope it works out well and you are happy with the decision.
I think loading for it would be worth it just because you could load up something that is lighter than Full power so it is more fun to shoot.
FP stuff is fun but lots of it can get old fast. (am I am talking about in .357 not a .480!)

that is a beveled crimp groove and you are crimping to the bottom. that is good for that cartridge. the crimp looks a bit light though so i'd go all the way to the bottom.

luck,

Thanks all.

I will be loading some FP rounds using H-110, but plan on loading the majority as light target loads using Trail Boss.

And I think I will tighten the crimp down a bit. Being color blind it's hard for me to see the brass against that bullet.

Get you a jewelers loupe to get a good, magnified view of your crimps.

A 10x jewelers loupe is ideal for confirming crimp. On a big cartridge like that you'd get a great visual read.

That looks, Formidable!:)

Coming alone very nicely, Ballman.

Thank you, just another step in my hobby/addiction!:)

Sidenote: I saw the gun while at a gun show and thought it would be a nice pistol to hunt with. Bought it and quit hunting shortly after. Only recently discovered (due to my interest in reloading for it) that it can be loaded to nearly .475 Linebaugh speeds if one wishes. Formidable, indeed!

And after speaking to the better half, a jewelers loupe will hopefully be added soon.:D

I'll update as I make progress.
