I've owned, loaded, fired, and hunted with several 270 Winchester caliber rifles for about 50 years. I have found that most are most consistantly accurate with 150 gr. bullets, usually Sierra or Hornady. One problem I experienced several times was that 150 gr. bullets shot clear thru mule deer at ranges to 150 yards. I've taken deer at longer ranges with the 270 and never had a problem. When I quit hunting elk, I dropped down to a 130 gr. and never had a bullet pass thru a deer, PERFECT!!
When I was using the 150 gr. it was because deer and elk season ran concurrently.
The 270 is great and can be nearly perfect with judicious handloading. I found Winchester 760 to give me best accuracy and velocity in a 22" Model 70---3140FPS at 10' in Military DEN 43 reformed cases. No pressure signs and easy extraction. Best 270 I owned and shot the throat out of the barrel in a few thousand rounds. Oh well!
