Reloder 16

JimKirk,
We are introducing our new rifle powder Reloder(R) 16 this Tuesday at the SHOT Show, so I can't let out much that isn't already out there. I am super excited about this powder though! It is the third of a new temperature insensitive family of rifle powders developed with our Swedish partners Eurenco Bofors. The first two were AR-Comp(TM) and Reloder 23, and they perform really well also, if you have not yet tried them.
I have a bunch of really good load data for the intro, so it will be worth the wait.
Thanks for your interest JimKirk.
Paul

Thanks Paul ...

When the cat is out of the bag Tuesday ... please come back by and tell us as much as you can ...

I have shot quite a bunch of Alliant products over my 50 yrs of reloading ... my only problem is finding them ... I hope the supply chain gets back in gear soon....

Thanks Paul ...

Yes please do & FWIW I miss Reloder 12

Reloder 16 Update

Sorry I forgot to update you guys on Reloder 16 after we splashed it at SHOT.
As you can see from the link provided by ntg above, we provided quite a bit of good data for the intro, and we have continued to add to it. Actually, the more data I see on this new powder, the more awesome it appears!
Unfortunately, we have not started shipping Reloder 16 out to our distributors yet. We are waiting in queue for DOT authority, so it should be another month at the most. We have powder and packaging at the plant, so we will be ready to ship as soon as we receive approval from PHMSA.
Please watch for it, and pick some up if it becomes available. I doubt you will be disappointed.
Shoot well,
Paul

Will have to give this powder a look. I've had good luck with RL-15 and 19 in my 7x57. I'd love to see some load data for 7x57 using RL-16.

Interesting. Rel 15 has been awesome in my savage .223 with 69g SMK and my Remington .308 168g SMK. Varget has been OK in both, but Rel 15 has been very, very good.

Reloder 15 works great with 65 gr plus bullets in my .223 ... but is a little slow to get top velocity with 50gr to 60 gr bullets .... Reloder 10X is a little fast for 55gr to 60 gr... that is the reason I said a Reloder 13 (something between RL10x and RL15) would be great ...

In my area it has been "take what you can find .. make it work" for the last several years ... supply is returning ... but there are plenty of powder hungry folks and the stuff on the shelf does last very long ...

I never got to know Reloder 12 ... but shot some Hercules RL 11 way back ...

Thread hijack, but OK let's talk AR-Comp

http://www.alliantpowder.com/products/powder/ar_comp.aspx

JimKirk,
AR-Comp(TM) is between Reloder 10x and Reloder 15, on the Reloder 15 side, so it is perfect for all bullet weights 50gr and up in 223Rem. It is also awesome in 308Win and any other applications that a 4895 burnspeed product would be used in. So, for the guys pining for the discontinued Reloder 12, this would be worth a look.
AR-Comp was the first of our new temp stable line that I mentioned earlier in this thread. We use it in a bunch of ammo at our Federal factory, and it is gaining in popularity with handloaders. It is one of our master ballistician's favorite powders, as he routinely delivers 10rd sd's of 3 or 4 with it. Dave actually gets upset if he can't get the sd down below 7, and starts blaming the components (and he is probably correct).
Shoot well,
Paul

+1 on Reloader 15 in heavier 223 bullets. Love my results with 77SMKs.

Thanks Paul ... AR Comp sat on the self at a local gun shop ... I passed it by not knowing anything about it ... it may have been you by email from Alliant that pointed me in the AR Comp direction ... but I have not seen it again at the LGS ... as soon as I get my hands on some ...will give it a try... Thanks

Paul (Alliant),

Any news as to when we'll see more data for RL16? For pushing heavies in the 308 for example...

I was told by Alliant that 1200 R was more a "ball version" of RL 10X ... being it is a double based powder ...

I have yet to see a burn rate chart with 1200 R on it ... so maybe Paul from Alliant will drop by and offer his inside info on where it falls ...

I see RL 12 was "about" the same burn as TAC ...

JimKirk is correct, PowerPro(TM) 1200-R was designed to be similar burn speed to Reloder 10x. The two are quite different, obviously, but St. Marks did a good job hitting the speed where I wanted it.

Regarding Reloder 16 in heavy 308Win applications, I had Dave shooting some this week actually. I have been out of the office so I have not analyzed the results, but when I spoke to him the other night, he had shot 190 and 200gr Sierra MatchKings and he was not getting the pressures up where I would like, so we'll have to see. He was still shooting some other heavier bullets, so they may be better, but Reloder 16 might be too slow to obtain good data from our chamber. He loaded them as long as our gun would allow for each of the bullets, but couldn't get enough powder in to get the pressure where it would shoot best. Others may be able to make it work in their chambers, but we must use the SAAMI test barrel.
Shoot well,
Paul

Paul,

Any more updates on it in 308? I'd like to see what it'll do with 175/178s. I sure like what you've listed for it in the 7/08 and will be trying in in mine. I hope those velocities hold true when I shoot it as that puts the 7-08 right with the 270win.

Any in the 22-250?

I'd sure like to see it on the shelves...

ntg,
In our SAAMI 308Win chamber Reloder 16 did not look optimum. We were not able to get enough powder in the case at the lengths our chamber would allow to generate high pressures.
In 22-250Rem we were able to obtain some good loads with heavy bullets.
We are still waiting on DOT approval before we can distribute, so sorry for the delay. We expect approval literally any day.
Thanks for your interest. I believe this powder will be worth your wait.
Paul

Thanks, Paul. Any idea when you'll have more load data available for use?

paul how would reloader 16 compare to reloader 17 in a 260AI?
