Rem 1100 Tactical... Stainless steel reciever or not?

I've got a Remington 1100 tactical that I'm looking at doing some smith work on, and I'm wondering if the reciever is made from stainless steel, or regular carbon steel with an anti-corrosive finish?

This gun has been beaten more severely than it deserved, and I'm worried that the receiver will rust in the areas where the finish is damaged

Put a magnet up to your receiver. If it won't stick, you have stainless.

I highly doubt your receiver is made of stainless, but rather than just tell you "no", I might as well tell you how to find out for yourself.

I have never heard of a 1100 with anything other than a carbon steel receivers. Other than the BPS from Browning and the Chinese knockoffs most other repeater shotguns have aluminum receivers today.

A magnet won't prove anything at all on a stainless gun.

Most stainless used in firearms & knives has enough carbon in it to be magnetic.

But that's beside the point.
Remington has never made a stainless reciever 1100 that I know of.

You can blue or Parkerize it.
Or use any of the Shake & Bake finishes.

I had already done the magnet test, but knew it was inconclusive.

I was imagining it was carbon, but thanks for the confirmation
