I have the chance to purchase a Remington 1100 Trap version 12ga shotgun in very good condition for $300.
Appears to be a 28in mod barrel without tubes.
I am interested in your opinions on this shotgun.
I am thinking this might be an inexpensive way to start trap shooting.
What do you think?

Mark, the price sounds good. The shotgun is a known quality piece. The only 'thing' though is even though they look great lots of the 1100 Trap models out there have had a bajillion rounds through them and they are getting tired. Do you know the seller?

At $300 it will be hard to get burned if the shotgun is in very nice condition cosmetically, and you can almost surely get your money back out of it if it turns out to be a dud. If it feels good in your hands and seems to be pointing where you are looking go for it, it IS a good way to get into trap shooting.

The good ol' 1100. :) Been shootin' a trap 1100 for longer than I'll admit. Sure there are fancier guns, but none will break targets any better than an 1100.

Look over the mag tube and the action bars. Their condition will give you some idea of how much it's been shot. Put a new link and recoil spring in it after you buy it. Cheap insurance and fairly easy to do.

What can I say? They just break targets.

Agree, great guns with a proven track record.

Parts are available, even those with a bazillion rds still run straights, fell birds, and finding a used bbl in a more open choke for certain tasks can be found - especially the old fixed chokes that folks turn noses up at.

Just play stupid with cash and remind the seller of such a bbl, all the 'new guns" have screw in chokes and ...and...gonna cost a fella some monies to convert. [ hang head, seem dis-interested, shuffle feet with cash on table - delay excitement until 2 blocks down the road] ;)

Mark;
Terrible price on old worn out , obsolete junker. Send me this guys number so I can whip him with hundred dollar bills like he deserves. LOL

Around here {Ohio} any good condition 1100 trap will bring $450 or more, depending on the wood.

Sounds like a good deal. Even a tired 1100 can be refreshed with new springs and other small parts.

Update

Well I bought it some time ago and do pretty well with it. I am not a competition shooter but I still average 22 or 23 out of 25 with this used 1100 trap shotgun. Close enough for me to have fun and enjoy the range time.
Had it checked by a gunsmith and he said it was good to go as is so it did not have a bazillion round fired thru it

Great!! Over on Shotgun Report, Bruce Buck has some stuff on the 1100s and when to replace certain parts. that may prove useful.

Now BA/UU/R, that first straight is not far off....i
