Have you picked up one of the Remington Model 5s on closeout lately? The ones with the plain vanilla stock? Or, did you take advantage of the Charles Daly Superior II bargains last year? The biggest complaint of these rifles seems to be the ugly blonde or sewer brown stocks that often come with these bargain rifles.

Stocky's Stocks has a nice supply of the brown laminated stocks from a Remington overrun, and for under $60. I ordered one today, and will get some pics of it up when it arrives.

Here is the good news, the stocks were made with the magnum magazine well cutout, which means you can use this stock for the .22.lr, .22 magnum or 17HMR actions. The .22lr will work just fine because the floor plate indexes the magazine with the action, not the stock cut out.

I have a magnum and a .22lr both, and after spending some time with Stocky's on the phone today, we determined that these stocks will work fine for all 3 calibers. I actually switched the stocks around on my two guns to make sure, and as long as you use the correct floor plate everything is a go.

For the record, these rifles have been imported as the following:
Remington Model 5
USSG Z5
Zastava 99
CZ99
Charles Daly Superior II
All the same rifle, just different importers.

(THE DISCLAIMER: I do not work for, nor do I have any affiliation with Stocky's. I simply wanted to give all the folks picking up these fine rifles a heads up on making them even nicer)

I took advantage of the Charles Daly Superior II.

Picked mine up about two years ago. I was really impressed by the metalwork & old fashioned deep bluing, and I like having the iron sights as back-up. I wasn't impressed by the mud brown of the wood tho.

I refinished mine. I've never refinished a wood stock before - in fact I haven't done any woodwork since HighSchool shop.

I had to use my wife's nail polish remover to strip the ugly oil stain off. I used 000 steel wool & sanded, then walnut stained. And after 8coats of Tru-oil, I think she came out pretty good.

She's a nice shooting little .22 and now she's pretty!

Here's a pic.
