I recently purchased some brass off a guy. In the lot are some REM-UMC BEST No 12 brass shotgun shells. These shells do not use a shotgun primer, and are 2.5 inches long. What where they used for? When where they made? How much are they worth? I have a bunch of these empty brass cases....

I also have rifle brass in caliber REM-UMC 348 WINchester? Can anyone give me idea what these cases are worth?

Any information on this is greatly appreciated.

New .348 brass through Cabela's runs around 60 cents each. Doubtful you could get that much for once fired stuff, but you can always put it on gubroker or the forum here and see if you get any responses. It all depends on how much you have and what shipping will run as well.

There used to be a lot of brass shotgun shells, back when most of them were made of paper. If you got the paper shells wet, or were in a very humid environment, they swelled up and wouldn't chamber. The brass shells didn't have that problem. They also made a lot of them during Vietnam, because of the jungle humidity, but they date way back before then. They've recently become popular with the Cowboy Action Shooters for blackpowder shooting.

Currently, MagTech in Brazil makes brass shotgun shells, but yours are from the Remington/Union Metallic Cartridge Company.

Hope this helps.
