have owned this shotgun since it first hit the market--love the way it handles-however--had nothing but problems from the start--1st gun ejector kept breaking when shooting 3.5" mag shells for geese.--problems started after less than 100 rounds. factory replaced orig.gun with new -- upgraded reinforced gas system-- worked great for less than 100 rounds --ejector broke again--same problem after repair--the thing that really irritates me is the darn thing broke while I was in the field w/o a backup--returned to factory repair on ejector and also sent a new barrel--I've since picked up 1 870 super-mag just to have a reliable hunting gun for late season --My question is ---am I alone with this problem w/ the 11-87 ? please don't suggest I switch to 3' shells --I hunt big water and i don't want to use 3" in late season nor do I want to use my primary Goose gun (SP-10)- for late season ducks and geese --just a little over-kill for me-- I like the 11-87 when it works --its a real joy to shoot --just hate the reliability problems.

No, you are not alone. I bought a gorgeous 11-87 Premier model, used. Worked perfectly for about 500 rounds, and then I couldn't get more than 3 rounds through it without a jam. As you say, it fit me well and I loved shooting it, but after months of effort and pretty much replacing everything in sight I gave up.

Traded it in on a Beretta AL390. Never had a single failure of any kind. I have 3 870's and they are great guns, but I no longer have any interest in Remington Auto loaders. I know lots of folks just love them, but my experience so far has been less than stellar.

I have just the opposite problem with my 11-87. I use it as a 3 gun shotty and I can't get it to cycle reliably with low base 2 3/4" brass. I've opened the gas ports and put in the upgraded seal system from Brownell's and it will finally just cycle using the sporting clays 1300fps ammo.

Remington 11-87 super thanks

Thanks for the help guys--Have the reworked shotgun in hand for the weekend. Going to bust some clays w/ my hunting loads--see how it holds up. My advantage is --Illion is 60 mi. east of my location and if the gun fails --this time I'll go to the factory and talk to a rep. or Q.C. Guy if they have the time--I own a number of Remington long guns and this is the only one I've had problems with---I have the SP-10 and it shoots like a dream--the Geese fear it --now if Remington could put that gas system into the 11-87 --they would have a fantastic 3.5 mag. 12 ga auto loader--and if they would only produce a 30" barrel for my 870 super mag. there would be a great many jumps for joy!
