Little gal up the road stopped me at the market yesterday and said her 1100 stopped working. I'm no shot gunner but it easy to see her piston was sized with carbon in the cylinder and the o-ring shown on u-tube was missing. After hours of soaking and chipping it's all freed up now but still needs the o-seal. Is this a hardware store item or something sized only for Remington? O-seals are metric world wide so could there be a quick replacement? Did the missing seal cause all the powder fowling? It must have been missing for years because this thing was a mess.

You can't not help a pretty girl with a shotgun..LOL

apparently there's a caterpillar tractor O-ring that's the right size. Google it.

Or they're readily available from brownells, midway, etc.

You need a Viton o-ring. 12 ga is #21 Viton o-ring; if its a 20 ga, its a #19 Viton o-ring. You can get them on line cheap or at a tool/equipment supply place for cheap. I know Grainger Supply carries them. Hope this helps

Yep; also try auto parts places. Since you aren't a shotgunner, pay attention to how you put the brass piston parts back on the gun. Wrong way and it won't function properly.

I want to thank everyone for the expertise and advice. I know zip about 1100 or any 12g autos. Well only a little about pumps.

Cheers

I ordered O rings from McMater-Carr yesterday and UPS just dropped them off very fast, Total was $15. 00 for 50 of the Viton #21.

That ought to last you a while unless you are extremely ham handed. I replaced the metal V ring in my 1963 Model 1100 about 1967 with an O ring so I wouldn't lose it. It's still going strong. Call it a test in progress.
I have replaced the one in my LT 20 gauge once; tore it while running my mouth while cleaning the gun. And I have ruined two spares. Rolled over them on the concrete floor with the chair.
I got 6 for like $4 delivered off ebay. I can't drive to town for that. If you want them to look silvery like the OEM ones from Remington, put them in a baggie with graphite and shake.

See I can sell some on eBay and all the rest will be free.
Mines been sitting as a safe queen since my club range was shut down so figured I needed one and figured may as well get a few extra.

I order mine from Brownells. I order extras and store them behind the but plate on my 1100's with a one shot tube of lube. That way no matter where I am at with the shotgun I always have a spare with me.
