Remington 1858 5 1/2 inch barrel is more accurate than 8"

I just tried the Remington 1858 yesterday with .45 LC cylinder .The Uberti made Millenium with 8 inch barrel will shoot high at 15 yards and all over the place while the 5 1/2 inc Pietta made with much heavy trigger will land all the load dead on target at the same range. Why this happen , I mean is the longer barrel suppose to be more accurate than the short barrel ?

Some of those replacement metallic cartridge cylinders are gunmaker specific because there are differences between a frame made by maker P vs. maker U. Your cylinder may be intended to be used in a Pietta. I don't think the barrel length matters, all other things being equal.

When you are shooting the revolver as a cap & ball the longer barrel burns a black powder charge better, and the longer handle on the rammer makes it easier to load. Neither of these things apply when you are using regular cartridges.

Old fluff , thank for the advice , I tried both my Remintons at 40 yards and discover that the longer barrel shoot much better than the short barrel one ,It must be because of the longer sight radius .Anyway both of this revolvers are fun and I will try them with Pyrodex soon.
