I just read the article in American Rifleman regarding the limited production M40. What really caught my attention was the stock. Does anyone know where to get a dull finished stock like that for a Remington or savage? Thanks...

I believe it is a McMillan A3 or A4 stock. Manners makes similar stocks as well.

Cheaper versions are Bell and Carlson and Choate.

I've been having the same idea, but on a long action. I like the finish.

Here's a picture of one:

Oh okay, I thought you meant the more modern ones.

I do like that stock. However, I don't know of anyone selling them. Perhaps you could get one custom made? Sorry I can't be of more help.

**It says on that site that you can order a replica for $5K! But you can also contact the guy, so maybe he has some extra stocks lying around that don't cost an arm, leg and kidney.

Yeah, a little pricey, but there is some amount of detail going into those and parts that you can't just go get.

As far as the stock: No idea.

No idea what that stock is but it looks to be an ADL with a cheek piece that has been sanded. I picked up a wooden stock that had the varnish removed, it looked just like the one in the picture.

Funny thing is the only sniper rifles I saw in Vietnam were Winchesters. I have a hard time accepting they used Remington because I never saw one.

the stock shape is the repeater version of the 60's Era remington 40X stock.

Don't know who they're getting them from now (ask GA Precision maybe, and if you do please share the answer), but back when Sniper Central Rifleworks was still making their version of the M40 the stocks came from accurate Inovations with an aluminum bedding block in place.
