Remington 700 safety modification ????

I just found out my old 222 remington had never been modified so bolt can be opened when on safety ( I only single load and shoot on bench for fun).
I don't want to pay Rem $20 and have them reset my trigger back to factory standard in the process, wonder if just cut/grind the part that goes up into bolt isn't the same thing. Any help from you all that have done this would be appreciated.

Remingtons safety mod program was a response to the lady that shot her kid and sued remington for it. We have modified over 200 rifles. I would never bother doing it to mine.
