I recently bought a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223, I have a Swift 3-9X50 scope I want to put on this rifle. I have always used Leupold rings and mounts. I want to put low rings on this but will the low rings cause the bolt to not open all the way? I had to put medium rings on my Weatherby because of this issue. Any suggestions?

unless someone comes along with this exact same combo on their gun, your best bet is to test it out and see... Go to a gun store where they will let you bring your gun inside (provided they sell these rings) and give it a try. They should be accommodating.

you may get lucky though and someone comes along with that combo!

I can tell you I just put a scope on my remington and the rear of the scope measures 44mm and with the low leupold rings it just barely clears... you couldn't fit a folded piece of paper in there.

the 44mm is the actual measurement of the rear of the scope, NOT the glass size.

What do you think about using a single base over a 2 piece base? I've always used 2 piece bases

sorry bud, I'm ignorant there, so it's best to keep quiet... I just use whatever I can find easily and afford... Some of my toys are nice, but most of my toys are cheap...

probably should clarify, mine are the 2 piece bases, I have never seen nor used the one piece before.

I've used NF low rings and 20 moa rail on a Rem 700 and had issues with bolt operation. The bolt handle cleared the eyepiece, but it was not optimal w/ the factory 700p bolt handle.

I doubt if you will be able to get a 50mm lense to work with low rings. Maybe mediums, but I'm betting you need high rings. Most low rings are suggested for scopes of less than 40mm although some guns and scopes will just barely squeeze a 40mm in with low rings. Mediums are usually needed for 40-44mm and highs for anything larger than 44.

There are much better ring and bases than the Leupold. I'd suggest something with a cross slot that uses the Weaver style rings. Warne makes good ones at a good price. DNZ mounts are well thought of as well. I like 'em a lot.

Warne 2 piece Maxima bases and Medium Maxima rings on my .308 SPS with a 50mm belled Leupold. I absolutely have zero use for any mount that rely on rear opposing screws ! Think about it a while!

I ended up having to use medium rings, the low rings were to short, my scope wouldn't go all the way down into the ring on the front by the barrel. The gun absolutly shot way better than I thought. I was putting three shot groups at a 100 yards that you could cover with a nickel. Using Hornaday Super Preformance 53gr V-Max bullets. The gun is also alot lighter than I thought too. Thanks everyone for the input. I might try some different rings and mounts later on, but for now I'm using the Leupold 2 piece mounts and medium rings.

Unless your going to a base with elevation, i dont think youll find much better then what youve got :D
