Steve, you'd probably have been better off buying the new rifle with the H-S stock to begin with, instead of paying for the VLS, then adding the price of the H-S stock.

Check out varminhunters.com want ads for a VS or "P" H-S Precision take-off stock. Sometimes you can find them for around $125 or so. If you have a dealer account @ Brownell's, their price is $260.
Yeah, the stock will work; just be sure you get the H-S stock for a short action Remmy 700.

Would I need to buy anything other then the stock to make it work? I really don't want to buy a used stock so I think I will just pull the stock off I have now while it is new and sell it for as much as I can get. Then buy the one from midway. I thought about buying a used vs or pss but I would rather have a new gun. So thats why I went with the vls. Thanks for the help

Did you ever use a stock like that? If you did how well did it work for you? They look alright but im not sure how good they are?

+1 on the Choate.

My friend had a Rem. 700 VSSF that shot half inch groups with no problem. He switched to the Choate Ultimate Sniper/Target stock and we we're shooting groups that looked like one ragged hole at 100 yards. For $150 it's hard to beat.

As much as I detest the look, Harris makes a good bipod. That's what he was using on his, the stock has a "T" slot on the underside.

Steve, not to belabor a point, as it's your money, but most of the "take off" stocks you'll find are taken off new guns and replaced with more expensive stocks. You'd never know the difference between the Midway overpriced H-S and a "takeoff" H-S.

H-S are better stocks than Choate; however, the Choate might do fine for your purposes. I'd suggest the Ultimate Varmint, rather than the Ultimate Sniper.

I’m still open to suggestions, but I’m leaning towards the h-s with a nice bipod.
