place the stock on the carpet floor, get on your knees and hold the stock over the trigger guard try to wiggle the barrel in all directions.. if there is any
play, you might have a bedding issue, i shot a friends VTR in .308 that was shooting super tight groups.

which scope rings did you switch to and which ones did you have before

Do all Coal Dragger has mentioned....word though, torque your action screws to 40 INCH pounds (lb/in.). We have seen the VTR's tighten up with this amount of torque applied, this is not an across the board value, most VTR's just wont shoot, but some will, and 40 inches pf torque has proven to help.

Try it, and let us know the results.

Seems that we have marketers making engineering decisions at Big Green now & it ain't workin out none too good.

Big Green needs to get away from gimmick marketing & back to quality.

Remington use to be my goto brand whenever I was looking for another gun......now it's Savage.

I know this post is a couple months old, and I am new to the forum, but hoping you can help. I was wondering if the stock off of a 700 SPS Tactical will fit the 700 VTR. I like the look of the Hogue stock, but liked the barrel on the VTR. Will it fit with the triangle shaped barrel? Thanks for the help.

Probably will fit fine. I have a 700VTR and my son has a 700 SPS Varmit. I think the big barrel of the SPS will give you plenty of room for the barrel.

Thanks. I am looking at the bell and carlson stock as well, but they are a little spendy. I can pick up a used SPS Tactical stock for a lot less.

6 inches at 100 yards??? Mine makes under 5 inchr groups at 500 yards. also shot sub moa with the factory stock

Had same problem. I sent mine back to Remington and they replaced the barrel and action it shoots a lot better. I still want more and I just floated it and it still shoots good next is the trigger even though they adjusted it to 3lbs it still feels way to heavy. My gauge showed it to be closer to 4lbs and it will not go lower. This newer XMark trigger will not adjust like the old ones would.
