I recently bought a Remington 700 VTR SS in a .308, It's a nice gun so I don't want to get a crappy scope. Trying to stay under 250 what scope would you recommend, Im not trying to see far as I would use it primarily for hunting in Vermont so I wouldn't need perfectly clear at 250 yards, just something reliable at 100-150.

Thanks

Sounds as though you got a sweet rifle in a caliber I like. Only problem is that I don't know what to recommend for less than 250. The only thing I could come up with is postpone your scope purchase and save up a bit more money and get something like a 3.5-10 X 40mm Leupold. But I'm kind of biased on that because I own two of 'em and one's about 10 years old and the other's over 20. One of 'em is on my avatar on a 300 WSM Savage. Other one's on a sporterized Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55. Longest shot for me with a 3.5-10 X was the Savage on an antelope at 242 lasered yards. 100- 150 yds is even easier. They've both been proven reliable in actual field use and the optics are great. A nice gun like a Mod. 700 VTR SS .308 deserves a nice scope and if it were me I'd wait and save my money up a bit more and get a scope that I can swear by instead of at. Last time I bought a scope for any thing other than a rimfire was about 5 years ago so I would naturally lean toward something that I know and trust 'cause I'm not even sure of what's out there nowadays for under 250.

3-9x40, 3-9x50, 2.5-10x40, 3.5-10x50, or 4-12x40.
Burris FFII, Bushnell 3500, Leupold VX1, Nikon Prostaff 5, Vortex Diamondback.
The Bushnell is made in Japan, the Leupold is assembled in the US, the others are made in the Philippines.
Looks like there are good prices on the Bushnell right now. Might be the best of the bunch.
