Anyone have any experience with the Remington model 5 .22lr?
five_780.jpg

I was just browsing around and i went to one of my local gun stores to see if they had anything new in and to my pleasant surprise they did tucked away in the corner i bearly noticed it a Remington model 5.

It felt very nice in my hands and I was very impressed with the price of $179 for a bolt action .22 in a laminate stock.

Are these any good? Or would I be better off getting a savage mk II?

Im in the market for a bolt .22 rifle

-thanks!

I may not be much help but I've had one for about 6 months now but I haven't had much of a chance to take it out shooting, next chance I get I will see what groups It can do.
But what I have learned so far is that the workmanship seems to be first rate with a good deep bluing with a good feeling and well made stock. Sights while not the best work just fine but I'm scoping it anyway. The mag release rattled but I took care of that by pulling off the stock and sticking a piece of stick-on felt over it inside to fill up a little gap, that took care of the problem. It's a little heavy for it's size but in a good way, it doesn't feel like a toy like some 22lr's do, but like a real rifle. Trigger pull is fine (at least to me).

I think they may have been overlooked and I heard somewhere they may not produced anymore (I can't confirm that). My only real complaint is the mag, they only give you one 5 rounder and the edges are a little sharp. But if I had to buy one again I would.

Compared to a Savage Mk II I think the Remy 5 feels more like a full size rifle but as far as comparing shooting I can't help there as I have never shot a Savage MkII

YMMV

No experience with the gun; but why is there only one sling QD mount in the pic? (and a cavity on the butt stock for the other?) just struck me as odd....

Don't know what going on in the OP's picture but mine came with both QD mounts and also unlike the picture my front sight is hooded.

Wrong stock in photo (it's the walnut) but the front sight is right.

the one i looked at indeed had two sling swivel studs on it. its a very tough decision between the savage and rem, I was also looking at CZ 452

Rem. Model 321

Hi txman321
I have had a Rem. Model 5 for about 3 months now. Have put about 4-500 rounds down range. The rifle is made by Zastava in Serbia. For a while it it was imported under license by Charles Daly. Generally, its reputation has been very good. Accuracy with my M5 is much greater than I am capable. The best I have gotten was .5" at 50yds with 10 rounds of Winch Dyna. using a 3-9 air rifle scope. At the moment I have a Williams peep sight on it and at 25yds it will hold .75-1.0" with the orginal front sight. With my eyes and tremors at 50yds things start to go to pot. The biggest downer is the magazine, only 5shot capacity, hard to manipulate that last round (set of your mouth is important, like 1911), and availability is rare. Not listed in Rem. catalog. Is a really sweet gun, well balanced, and anything under $200 I would consider a great deal. Check out Zastava web site to get idea of company background. Rifle is still listed on Rem. web site but that may not be up to date. I have not shot Savage II or CZ but those who have shot all three rank them as competitive. Rather windy, I hope it was helpful

It is a rifle made very cz-ish, and for 179 bucks, is a total steal. made by Zastava arms i believe, and finished in Remmy's custom shop, it usually costs much more. I would be all over that.

just look at that detail, a great buttpad, reciever scope bridge is part ot the reciever, swept back bolt handle, fully ramped and screwed front site, fully capped pistol grip, fully adjustable rear site, and if you can , order a front site hood for it. this is work that used to be done on American firearms, but hasn't been done it 20 or so years.
