So, I made this thread months ago but couldn't relocate it. Remington has this product called a "moisture guard shotgun plug". Basically it's a snap cap that also acts as a desicant/moisture guard. They're about 5 dollars apiece. I'm going to be storing some shotguns long term, and I need some snap caps anyway. My question is, would storing a snap cap or shell inside of chamber with the hammer dropped long term be harmful to either the receiver, barrel or chamber? I'm talking 6+ months at a time, cleaned again and then re-stored in the same fashion...I understand some may feel it frivolous that I buy it for the corrosion protection, but I do need the snap caps anyway...

harmful or not to leave this thing in for extended periods? Will it deform? Trap gasses in the bore somehow?http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=711470

When I couldn't find the little VCI cardboard tabs locally, I started buying a package of the mixed-size Remington plugs and hanging them in the safe. VCI/Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor vapors shouldn't hurt anything.

"Place in chamber or mount in gun cabinet/safe to protect gun
• Leaves no scent residue
• 30 cubic feet of protection"

The "Super Safe Plug" is too big for me.

" 216 cubic feet of protection for up to one year"

216 is 4' x 5' x 10.8'
That's not a safe, that's a walk-in closet.

OTOH, nothing beats a thin coat of light grease.
