A friend of mine is selling his 98% (my guess) barely used Remington 12 Gauge Peerless over/under shotgun. It has a bunch of chokes (three came with the gun plus he is adding a couple other Rem chokes). The barrel length is 28 inches. He is looking for $895 (he thinks it is worth $995).

Am wondering if that is a reasonable price? Also, I am new to skeet and sporting clays and am looking for an over/under 12 gauge to get into that sport with. Anyone had any experience with the Rem Peerless? Is it a good gun for skeet or sporting clays esp with the 28 inch barrel(s)?

I shot one years ago when they first came out. It shot fine on the skeet range but 'felt' kinda cheap. Everything worked fine but I couldn't take a liking to that gun. At the time I was shooting a Red Label for skeet which is compatible price wise. According to Blue book 98% is at $900. So you would not be getting a great deal. Try it for fit and go shoot it before you buy it. If it feels real good to you then it may be worth the money.

I see them occcasionally like new in the box in the $650-700 range. $900 is WAY too much IMO when they were only $900-950 new. The Peerless is a decent shotgun, and will stand many thousands of rounds. If you can't get it for $650ish I would advise you pass.

I agree with HSmith. I had one and sold it. It seems like Remington is really going down quality-wise.
