Remington has $100 rebates for a number of firearms. Palmetto State Armory has their RM380 and RP9 pistols on sale for $199 and $269 respectively (before rebates). That comes out to be $99 and $169 respectively with rebates plus about $17 shipping per pistol.

To me, that sounds like an incredible deal.

However, I don't want to buy garbage either and I know Remington has had a lot of flops in the recent past. How do the RM380 and RP9 pistols stack up against pistols in their classes?

I prefer comments from people who actually own or have shot these pistols. Thanks.

I bought the RP9 about 2 months ago. I got it for $289 with a $100 rebate so I have $210 in the gun. The gun was manufactured in 11/2016 and I was having feeding problems with the mags. I contacted Remington and they sent me newer updated mags that had stronger springs and they work fine. A couple of things about the sights. The rear sight is threaded for a allen set screw but doesn't have one and the front sight has a vertical hole for a roll pin and it doesn't have one either. This normal according to Remington.
The gun is accurate. When shooting it you need to cover your target with the front dot. If you aim with the top of the front sight you will shoot low. Overall I like the gun and I ordered the RM380 today from Palmetto for $199.

Thanks for the heads up on this - just ordered one myself (the RP9). For $169 it's hard to beat, plus from what I can tell the gun comes with 4 magazines - 2 10-round and 2 18-round.

The way I read it, it comes with either two 10-rounders for ban states or two 18-rounders for free states. I hope I'm wrong and it comes with a total of four.

My RM380 is easy to shoot and runs like a champ.

I'm going to order one and keep it in the bathroom with me when I shower. I was going to order a Hi-Point because I didn't think they'd rust much and at their price I wouldn't care much if they did rust. But the RM380 is cheaper than a Hi-Point right now. I'll just make sure it's well greased to try to prevent rust, and at $99.00 I won't get too upset if it gets some rust on it...

I missed the black friday rebate for my R1 Enhanced high capacity 1911. The shop didn't get it in until 3 days after the rebate ended :(

I have been eying a RM380 maybe on this rebate, gotta get one in hand first.

Rm380 on the way. I got an r51 with the Black Friday sale which has been pretty good.

I wasn't happy about their 17 bucks for shipping but, even with shipping and paying $20.00 for a transfer, I'm getting the RM380 cheaper than I can get almost any other gun.

If I were to go to a gun store in Illinois and theoretically purchase a Hi-Point (which I cannot do), I'd pay at least $135.00 and then I'd have to pay 7.5% sales tax on that, and possibly a $6.00 Illinois gun purchase fee which some stores charge and some stores waive...

My total cost for this RM380 after shipping and transfer fee will be $136.99 (after rebate).

Just FYI, if you're near a 'Point Blank' store, they have the RM380 on sale for $219 this weekend, before the rebate.

Larry beat me to it. $119 after rebate!

Count zero: aren't you in IL? Why can't you purchase a Hi-point here?

Technically, IL has a melting point law; zinc firearms are verboten. Seen lots of Hi-Points for sale, so not sure how it's enforced....

Wow, really? What is that about?? Never heard of it... they don't want your gun to melt? Very thoughtful of them.
So, Hi-point are made of zinc? Does that account for their low price and fugly appearance?
Huh.... Very interesting.... Learn something new, some times three or four things, everyday.
Thanks for explaining.

It was a way to restrict 'Saturday Night Specials', like the Raven, Jennings and similar cheapies. Illinois didn't want those poor folks having guns. ;)

Wish I'd seen this sooner. I'd gladly sample an RM380 for $100 but they are sold out.

Picked up my RP9 today (there's a PSA local to me so I get "free" transfers :)).

The gun didn't come with the 4 magazines it was supposed to (only had 2 10-round magazines) - though the lady at the store mentioned it before I did and gave me a Customer Service # to call - apparently this had already been a problem for several other customers too.

I haven't take the gun out to shoot it yet, but initial non-firing review is as follows:

It feels good in the hand. Though I'm 5'10" I have tiny hands and so it's odd that a gun this big feels as natural in the hand as it does.

Trigger is "OK". It breaks at around 5.75 lbs which is about standard for a duty pistol but there's a bit of creep before the break. Nothing major though and it feels lighter than that (if I'd have guess just by feel I'd have though the break was closer to 4.5 lbs).

As many other reviews have stated - the left-hand slide stop release is completely non-functional. Even if you pull back the slide to take the pressure off of it, you can't get enough leverage on that side to even push down the magazine follower to deactivate the hold-open. As a right handed user who pretty much never uses the slide stop anyways though, that's not a big deal to me.

I will say that the magazine buttplate is UGLY. Way more bulbous than it needs to be.

Also, the front sight on mine is drifted a bit to the left. Not sure if that was part of factory zeroing or if it was just a mistake, but if it doesn't shoot to POA I have a sight pusher that should work to center it.

Overall, assuming that it functions reliably, I'll be happy with my purchase.

The RM380 with rebates is one heck of a deal. I grabbed one for the lady in stainless and anodized blue from Impactguns for $265 shipped, so $165 after rebate. No transfer fees for me, but stupid CBI charges us to run a BGC here, so a couple bucks more yet :cuss:

I was sorely tempted by the RP9 at <$200 after rebate, but even as an SOT, it's hit and miss if they'll ship them here with standard capacity mags, and I have 9mm pistols coming out of my ears anyway. However, when I spotted the RP45, even though I think the pistols are rather ugly, a 15 round 45 from a reputable maker for $300 was too much to resist, so I bit. It showed up yesterday, and though I haven't fired it, initial impressions are positive, and it's looks are growing on me. Excellent fit & finish, good sights, pretty decent trigger, if not a tad squishy. Feels good in the hand, and though it's a squeeze to get the last one in the mag, it's pretty hard to argue the allure of a 15+1 .45 ACP that actually has an ergonomic grip. It's slightly wider but a little shallower front to back than an M&P 45, and considerably smaller and more comfortable than any generation of Glock large frame, with more capacity than either.

I'll be making a threaded barrel adapter to run it suppressed. I can honestly see this one becoming a favorite range toy.

I got the RP9 a couple of months ago with the rebate. I must say I was impressed with the fit and finish, as well as the function and accuracy. I have no regrets at all with it.

I actually just sent my rebate packet in the mail today. I bought a R51 from impact guns for $321 otd. I figure after rebate, $221 is pretty good. I already had one I bought last year with the previous rebate. This 2nd pistol might just stay in the box.
