During the American Revolution, John Belton proposed a repeating flintlock. It had a detachable magazine tube that was loaded like a Roman candle. I was unaware of the existence of two Belton designed muskets until I saw this video from the Royal Armouries. The curator, Johnathan Ferguson, said that the trigger had a ratchet design to interface with the sliding flintlock the moved down along the magazine to each successive touchhole. There is also a gas sealing problem as these firearms were hand fitted.

Very Cool!

Too bad Bernard Cornwell didn't see that video and include it in one of his Sharpe's Rifles early India books when Richard's Infantry units under Wellington often coordinated with units of the East India Company.

If he included the Sea Service Volley Gun, I'm sure he would have loved that baby.

I wonder if the other 122 of these are sitting around somewhere in India?

Thank you 4v50 Gary!

Very unusual!
One of the things on my to-do list is to visit the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
