Replacement ammo for my Wal-Mart Federal 9mm

Those flecks are color tags to tell investigators which lot of ammo they are looking for and to trace its linage. Its microscopic tagging, which they have been doing for years.
Interesting. But, it's not microscopic and I don't like their method of tagging dirtying up the actions of my guns, so I'll continue to buy a different brand. :)
 
Where did you see that it's required in gunpowder (which has historically been exempted)? I don't find any indication at either of those links that it's required, and I don't see it in my other brands of ammo.
I see it each year in every new batch of powder I use for reloading my shotgun shells. Doesn't matter which brand I buy, I always see those color flakes. Been that way for over a decade. Perhaps pistol ammo it just depends on the brand. But tagging powder is definitely not new. They do the same thing with commercial grade explosives.
