It was the same model as the one I got when I was 14.

Looked all over the place for the parts. Then I just ordered a newer kit. The parts fit just fine.

In fact the seal where the pressure is sent into the barrel was the problem. The original has rotted

The new one is nylon. Finally get to shoot it again.

Here is the rifle and the part below was where the seal failed. FYI I tried another O-ring in it. It blew out within the first 6 pumps.
I just ordered a new part and it has a teflon head on it. Ebay repair kit was $15 delivered and included 2 new O-rings, the cup for the piston and the improved teflon part below
The brass pressure chamber was impossible to get apart, I read that it had lock-tite on the threads. Just added heat from propane torch and it came right apart.
I did need Vice grips and a Bench Vice to get it open and it left jaw marks but they had no impact on operation.

This is the same model and year gun I opened in 1978 on Christmas

Kool , I had a good friend that lived in the neighborhood back when I was in high school that had a really nice backyard target range setup that we primarily used 760's at. I won't even speculate as to how many thousand BB's we shot at that range and how many GI Joes, Barbie dolls and pop cans we killed with those 760's :) ...

I was told parts were unavailable for these anymore. Good to see that they can still be got. I have a 761XL, it still works but I've been afraid it's on borrowed time.
