Cops said dozens of casings were found. Two things stand out, with his effectiveness I’m gonna assume he had a rifle also. Secondly, with a car pulling up with 5 suspects and at least 2 of them having rifles and dozens of rounds fired I believe this most likely a hit or a drug rip of a drug house. Guess we’ll find out.

Either way, a wheel gun definitely wouldn’t be the weapon of choice and an AR definitely would.

Damn. It happened in Houston too -- I'm not all that far away. This is pretty much the nightmare scenario -- a carload of people coming down my driveway in the middle of the night.

Maybe I should get an AK.

Not necessarily.

If the cops can go to the wrong address and raid the wrong people, there's certainly no reason why private sector home invaders can't as well.

Once or twice back when I was in law enforcement the most puzzling serious crimes turned out (usually some time later...) to be simple wrong address or mistaken identity incidents. Bad guys came on like they were expecting a full out gangster defense - but had targeted innocents by mistake... Not a lot of fun for the victims...

My all time favorite during the cocaine wars was the "Miami special" dope deal... No one brought dope - no one brought money... both sides brought guns... to what turned out to be one very bloody party...

Sometimes the bad guys get the address right, but pick the wrong victim.

A friend who used to live in the Houston area told me about the case of a home invasion perpetrated by a bunch of Vietnamese gangsters who preyed on other Asians who were culturally disinclined to deal with the police.

A Vietnamese guy pulled into his driveway and found that the outside garage lights were on. This was a prearranged signal between him and his wife that something was amiss.

He armed himself and went inside, where he proceeded to air out the home invasion crew.

Note to self: Try to avoid committing home invasions on the homes of former Biet Dong Quan...

I hope I have the wherewithal to go Rambo like that if my home ever gets invaded.

I hope never have to go through something like this. Please give me hope. Did this happen in economically depressed area where gang and or illicit drugs were involved?

If I was moving to a big city I would want to know the recent history of the house or apartment I was going to move into.
The thugs will probably be operating on out dated information and you just might be the victim of their stupidity.

I live in neighboorhood full of liberals with kids, pets plus great neighboorhood watch system. There is no way in hell I'm leaving this piece of heaven.

Whether the defender is also a dirt bag will surface- what is evident is that he/she successfully defended the home in question. The question to ask yourself- am I training hard enough, and am I prepared to win and survive?

I'm another thats suspects theres more to the story. Maybe mistaken identity, maybe not. We hopefully will hear more on this. But the fact remains that 4 bad guys are now out of the system. Win Win!!!

A many decades or so ago I moved into an apartment after a divorce. I found I was getting lots of health and fitness magazines sent to a former owner as well as several Law Enforcement magazines. I didn't think much about it until later. Then I started noticing this old blue Cadillac most everywhere I went. But again, at first I didn't think much about it.

One day I was reading the paper and a name in an article was familiar. It was a story about a GBI undercover agent who had been killed about a year earlier during a bust. And it was the same name that was on the magazines I'd been getting that were sent to the prior occupant of my apartment.

No Spidey sense needed, it was full 0.5 Level.

But I did not see the Cadillac again and never learned if the apartment was being watched and if so by Good Guys or Bad Guys and the magazines eventually stopped coming and life went on, but it certainly was Interesting Times.

Of course, a hit or a drug rip...... on the wrong house.

For folks living in a "nice neighborhood" ... bad news can come to your door as well I'm afraid... At least that was my experience on the street all those years ago. No it's not very common but when it does happen - a false sense of security won't help you much...

I'm one of those guys who prepare for the worst - and pray that it never comes, since the "good guy" doesn't always win. And if you do win - your troubles may only be getting started, one way or the other...

By the way, I haven't carried a sidearm even once in the 23+ years since I left police work. A concealed carry license was part of my retirement package (and I've faithfully renewed it every five years to keep it current - in case I might have to take a job again that required a gun...). If I'm making a mistake - I'll be the first one to know about it.... If you ever see your name in the newspaper with an accusation of murder attached - it's not something you're ever likely to forget. My incident was job related and I was in and out of a long running inquest for about six months as a result before the shooting was ruled justifiable. I will always live with the possibility that someone may come to my door with a grievance and a gun - even all these years later.
