Resizing .223 brass

A couple questions about resizing .223 brass, using Imperial Sizing Wax as a lube. What is the reasoning behind the idea of not getting lube on the case shoulder? It must not be too harmful, since many people spray lube their brass. Also, how necessary is it to lube the interior of the case neck? Does this lube need to be removed after sizing? Thank you.

Too much lube on the shoulder and it will put a dent in it. You lube the inside of the case neck to help the sizer button slide in and out smoothly, it will help keep it from streching it so much.

Does this lube need to be removed after sizing?

RCBS lube does not need to be removed from the inside of the necks if applyed properly. Use a nylon brush with lube to treat and clean the inside of the neck. This way you dont get globs of lube like you do with a Q-tip. When the expander exits the neck, all excess lube is remover. RCBS lube is water soulable, will not hurt powder. The rest of the case needs to have the lube removed after sizing.

What about those carbide expanders for RCBS dies. Anyone use them so they don't have to lube the inside of the neck? Do they actually work?

I use a Redding Sizer with a carbide expander plug. It seems to work pretty well. I do not lube the inside of the necks, and don't seem to have any issues. Redding makes, or used to make, carbide expander balls for the RCBS dies. Or maybe it's vice versa, been a long time.

I use Imperial as well and have found that shoulder denting is not nearly as big a problem with Imperial as it is with RCBS Case Lube. With Imperial, I have found that a little goes a long way and just running a finger tip over every other case mouth seems to put enough lube on the expander to keep it from binding.
